Sinker Honduras Mahogany

Other Common Names: Acajou, Acajou Amerique, Aguano, Belize mahogany, Big leafed mahogany, Bigleaf mahogany, Caguano, Cao, Caoba, Caoba de Atlantico, Caobilla, Chiculte, Cobano, Gateado, Mahogany, Mara, Mogno, Orura, Palo zopilote. 

Characteristics: Honduras Mahogany varies in color. It may be yellowish, reddish, pinkish, or salmon colored when freshly cut depending on the age of the tree, maturing into a deep rich red or brown color with age. Exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet light can accelerate this color deepening. A very rare color variation of S. macrophylla is locally known in Central America as "Caracolillo" which is characterized by it's very dark chocolate color and a high degree of figure. The wide variability in color has enabled many look-alike species to be marketed as "mahogany" but to most die hard woodworkers there is nothing like the genuine article.
